Programme Overview

A BA/LLB(Hons) conjoint allows you to complete a BA and the LLB(Hons) in less time, and with fewer points, than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

This degree develops essential skills that help students to adapt and thrive in a fast-changing, globalised society.

By studying Law, you can arm yourself with a skill set that meets the high demands of many careers, inside and outside of the legal profession. You can complement your legal study with a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages.

Becoming a barrister and solicitor To be admitted as a barrister and solicitor, you will need complete a three-month Professional Legal Studies course after completing the LLB or LLB(Hons). New Zealand qualifications

Entry is by invitation for high-achieving Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (BA/LLB) Part II students.

To be considered for the Honours programme in Law, you must achieve a B+ average or higher across all your law courses at the completion of LLB Part II during your BA/LLB. (This is usually at the end of your third year.)

Selected courses from the Bachelor of Arts Conjoint Component must include courses in a minimum of three subjects listed in the Bachelor of Arts Schedule.

A student who is required to meet the Academic English Language Requirement through the completion of an approved academic English language course, as specified in the Enrolment and Programme Regulations, Academic English Language Requirement, of the University Calendar, may be required by the LLB Programme Director to:

1 substitute an LLB course with an approved academic English language course, or

2 include an approved academic English language course in their non-LLB component degree, or

3 complete, to a specified standard, a course or courses that are approved by the Programme Director as meeting the Academic English Language Requirement for that student

  • 255 points for Bachelor of Arts Conjoint Component, and
  • 465 points for Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Conjoint Component, and
  • 15 points from General Education, and
  • 1 item from Academic Integrity Course

Complete 255 points comprising:

  • 120 to 255 points for 1 to 2 Major from Majors , and
  • 0 to 135 points for 0 to 3 Modules from Modules, and
  • 0 to 135 points from Other Courses from the Bachelor of Arts Schedule

Selected courses must include at least 165 points at level 200 or higher.

Selected courses must include at least 75 points at level 300 or higher.

  • 40 points for all Dissertation
