Complement your legal studies with a wide range of pathways offered within Communication and find your voice.

By studying Law, you will arm yourself with a skill set that meets the high demands of many careers, inside and outside of the legal profession.

Combining Law with Communication, you will learn how to analyse the ideas and issues raised in your studies and effectively communicate these concepts and solutions to others.

Programme Structure

We recommend you choose WTRAED 100 - Waipapa Taumata Rau: Introduction to Te Pūtahi Mātauranga, Arts and Education as your General Education course.

To complete the conjoint within five years, students must undertake a heavier workload than normal.

You need to maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.5 each year to continue with your conjoint.

Your conjoint degree will help you to develop strong capabilities for many careers. Develop knowledge of the law and its implications, and a sense of justice and public responsibility that you can communicate effectively.

Becoming a barrister and solicitor

To be admitted as a barrister and solicitor you will need complete a three-month Professional Legal Studies course after completion of the LLB or LLB(Hons). There are currently two providers of this course:

Schedule Notes

A student who is required to meet the Academic English Language Requirement through the completion of an approved academic English language course, as specified in the Enrolment and Programme Regulations, Academic English Language Requirement, of the University Calendar, may be required by the LLB Programme Director to:

1 substitute an LLB course with an approved academic English language course, or

2 include an approved academic English language course in their non-LLB component degree, or

3 complete, to a specified standard, a course or courses that are approved by the Programme Director as meeting the Academic English Language Requirement for that student

Programme Schedules

Complete 675 points comprising:

  • 255 points for Bachelor of Communication Conjoint Component , and
  • 405 points for Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Component, and
  • 15 points from General Education, and
  • 1 item from Academic Integrity Course

Bachelor of Communication Conjoint Component

Complete 255 points comprising:

  • 120 points for Core Courses, and
  • 120 points for one Major from Majors, and
  • 15 points from Additional BC courses

Selected courses must include at least 165 points at level 200 or higher.

Selected courses must include at least 75 points at level 300.

  • 45 points for all Stage I Compulsory Courses, and
  • 15 points from Stage I Elective Courses, and
