The aim of this course is to enable students to gain academic credit by building on their experiences in paid work, voluntary service, or other activities external to university study. Focusing on the company, community group or other entity that students are or have been active in, students will gain a more in-depth understanding of various aspects of the workplace. These include organisational structure, culture and diversity, social responsibility, and communication.
Your organisation may be a business/social enterprise, Iwi organisation, trust, community group, church group, charity, Government department, NGO, sports team, club or society, or a group with a strong representation of Māori, Pasifika, or international students. You may also choose to keep your organisation anonymous.
Employers and recruiters tell us how important it is that graduates enter the workforce with more than just job-specific technical skills and knowledge. Organisational awareness, communication skills, and the ability to solve broad and open-ended problems are key capabilities employers seek in graduates. The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity to reflect on the skills and knowledge gained throughout their own extracurricular and work activities, as well as university studies. At the same time, it will develop and refine new skills and knowledge important to the workplace of today and the future.
