Dance 310 is designed to encourage and support the development of choreographic and performance tools for dance practice in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The course develops from the groundwork of Year 1 and Year 2 choreography and further explores choreographic ideas, concepts, collaborative dance practice and the complexities of movement invention. As an intensive, the course aims to build performance skills and choreographic abilities towards a Third Year Show (5th & 6th November), where each student will present a 3-5 minute dance work as a solo choreographer or in a collaborative group. Leading to this outcome students are encouraged to experiment, research, and develop choreographic materials that demonstrate a unique and creative individual vision for their work. Diverse, innovative, creative expressions are encouraged. Students will also submit a 1,000 word Statement of Research Intent that demonstrates a critical engagement with current choreographic practices, philosophies and aesthetics. In sum: Within this course students are assessed on their choreography (50%), engagement with performance in other people’s work and production management (30%), and Statement of Research Intent (20%). Student engagement in this course is assessed throughout, with consideration to critical discussion, classroom contributions, punctuality, preparation, peer support and attendance.
