In this course, we aim to deepen our understanding of the relationship between law and society through discussion of law in historical context. The seminar is designed to support students to pursue their independent research.
In the first semester, we will explore select legal historical developments in political, economic and social context. In preparation for the research essay and presentation, we think critically about historical research method. We will discuss finding and interpreting legal historical sources, writing a research essay, and presenting research. Essays may be written on any aspect of law in history that interests you.
In the second semester, students are required to present their research to the seminar group.
