This course focuses on critical approaches to sound and music in media studies, communication, sound studies, popular music studies and cultural studies.
The course is a seminar based on group discussion of the required reading and media facilitated by the course director.
Students are expected to read 2-4 articles/chapters each week, listen and/or watch the relevant media content, and attend a 3-hour class each week prepared to discuss and present the issues raised by the reading and media. Coursework involves close reading and critical reflection on theoretical and empirical studies, independent research, writing and presentations in class.
