Reflection of 2025:
Here’s what students said they liked about the course:
• Quizzes/case studies early in the semester
• Ample resources
• Format of the course on CANVAS
Here’s what students said they would like to see improved:
• Making sure the rubrics are up to date for the case presentations and the BV case presentation requirement is more specific to BV
• Better allocation of specialty clinics, especially BV and OH. Some students did not see any patients for a full BV work-up.
• More encounters with patients with low vision (at BLVNZ or in clinic)
• Longer time to speak for the Low Vision presentations.
These are the changes we will make for the next delivery of the course:
• Reviewing the case presentations rubrics and information to ensure they have the updated information before being published before semester starts. The BV case presentation is
being reviewed to ensure it is relevant to the area of BV.
• Investigation to look at improving allocation of specialty exams and detecting those students who have not seen any particular group of patients in semester two so they can be
given additional specialty clinics in that specific specialty area.
• We have improved numbers of exposures to patients with low vision over the last few years from 0-2 to 2-4 for most students. There is a balance between increasing expoures to
patients with low vision without decreasing CEE exposures. We will review to see what is possible.
• The Low Vision case presentation speaking time has been increased to 7 &1/2 mins for next year.
