This course is an intermediate stage of embodied cultural practices in the Pacific, with a specific focus on methods of current storytelling in parts of Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia in keeping with Pacific traditions and literacies. This course will also delve into the relationships between bodies in time and space and through sound and movement in a Pacific context.
By fostering the creative embodiment of knowledge through performance, the class will devise a performance centred on stories of activism in our region using songs, poems, dance, patterns, and visual elements. In doing this, we will consider what it means for Pacific peoples to use the tools of storytelling as a means of transference of knowledge.
