This course is dedicated to the examination of concepts that are central to Indigenous Philosophies. Drawing from language, natural entities, customary and contemporary narrative forms (storytelling, weaving, carving, music, and dance), as well as local and global socio-political movements, this course explores Indigenous philosophy through a diverse methodology. Combining a mixture of philosophy out in the ‘field’ and bringing land- and seascapes into our spaces of engagement, the course will immerse students in Indigenous philosophies, enabling them to understand not merely the form and content these philosophies take, but how these concepts are cultivated, transferred, and enacted. It thereby equips us with a rich toolset to understand and appreciate the importance of both philosophical thought for Indigenous communities as well as Indigenous practices of philosophical inquiry.
