This course provides foundational knowledge and skills to support you on your journey to becoming a health professional in Aotearoa. You will develop insights into how your learning fits within a broader context and will emerge from this course understanding the significance of knowledge of place and Te Tiriti o Waitangi for your studies and future practice. The course will also explore how knowledge systems can frame our understandings of contemporary health issues and inform how we respond to them.
You will learn essential skills to support your future learning and employability including effective communication, time management, collaborative learning and academic writing. You will develop your critical thinking and will be guided to reflect on factors that influence how we see and engage with the world. While content in this course is focused on an Aotearoa New Zealand context, the skills and knowledge developed will be internationally transferable.
WTRMHS 100 is a core requirement for programmes in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and will play a key role in shaping your first year of study with us. As a first-year requirement, completion is needed to progress into your second year of study where you will have opportunities to build on what you have learned.
