Undergraduate study in Accounting

Accounting is one of the eleven subjects you can study in the Bachelor of Commerce, often combined with Finance or another Business subject as a double major.

What can you study in Accounting?

You can study Accounting as a single major or as a double major alongside one of the other majors offered within the Bachelor of Commerce - such as Finance, which is a popular choice. You can also study towards the Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting as part of a conjoint degree programme. (In a conjoint programme, you study for two degrees at once, attaining the qualification in a shorter time than it would take to complete the two programmes separately.)

In the Accounting major you will learn about analysing and presenting financial statements that are used for business planning and decision-making.

When you graduate, you could become an accountant or auditor in a chartered accountancy practice, in industry, or in the public sector. You could also work as a business consultant or financial manager in a manufacturing, service or consultancy organisation.

Complete 90 points comprising:

45 points for all Compulsory Courses, and
15 points from Stage II Elective Courses, and
30 points from Stage III Elective Courses

Selected courses must include at least 45 points at level 300.

Students undertaking the BCOM Major Bachelor of Commerce major in Finance are exempt from ACCTG 102 in the BCOM Major in Bachelor of Commerce major in Accounting.
