Subject Overview

New scientific methods and technologies in anthropological science include the analysis of DNA and ancient DNA, C-14 dating, stable isotope research, metallurgy, the analysis of live and fossil spores, the annual rings of trees, pollen grains, and human and animal remains, as well as the behavioural observation of humans and primates.

This major will give you the chance to apply more science to your studies in archaeology and biological anthropology. Other sciences complement the study of Anthropological Science, for example, Biological Science, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences or Geography.

By integrating archaeology and biological anthropology with science disciplines, Anthropological Science equips graduates with the skills for employment or postgraduate research.

This major offers you the chance to hone scientific skills and learn new technologies that will support research in bio-anthropology and archaeology.

Potential Careers

This programme will integrate studies in Archaeology and Biological Anthropology with science disciplines to produce graduates who are able to work or undertake graduate study in the fields which require dual understandings.

Plan Schedules

Complete 120 points comprising:

  • 45 points from Bachelor of Science Major in Anthropological Science Stage III Courses, and
  • At least 15 points from Additional Courses from the Bachelor of Science Major in Anthropological Science, and
  • 0 to 60 points from Courses from the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Honours) Schedules

Selected courses must include at least 75 points at level 300 or higher.
