Bachelor of Arts (Honours) major in Criminology

A major is the main subject area that you choose to study in your degree. You will study courses up to Stage III level in this subject.

As well as gaining skills, knowledge and experience in your chosen area, you will learn how to think creatively, solve problems and communicate effectively, all essential skills to help you thrive in any career you choose.

Criminology is concerned not just with crime, but with the broader issues of social control and deviance and how these affect punishment and criminal justice.
You can study topics such as restorative justice, cybercrime, penology, gender, policing, prisons, cultural criminology, justice policies and Indigenous perspectives.

BA(Hons) - Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

Postgraduate study in Criminology
You can undertake postgraduate courses and your own research in areas such as:
- Criminological theory
- Penology
- State crime
- Law and human rights
- Social deviance
- Youth and crime
- Cybercrime

A background in Criminology can open up career opportunities in social policy and criminal justice. You can develop analytical and research skills that will also be useful in many other careers.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminology
A BA or Bachelor of Global Studies with a major in Criminology or else approval from the Head of School or nominee. You must have a Grade Point Average of 5.0 or higher in 45 points above Stage II in the major.
The following subjects may be considered for entry: Film and TV (excluding Communication and Screen Production), Media, Sociology.

Prerequisite: A major in Criminology, or an equivalent subject approved by the Academic Head or nominee

Complete 120 points comprising:

90 points from Elective Courses, and
Either:
30 points for all Research Project - 1 Semester, or
30 points for all Research Project - 2 Semesters

CRIM 708 - Directed Study (30 points)

CRIM 709 - Special Topic (30 points)

CRIM 710 - Cybercrime (30 points)

CRIM 711 - Gender, Crime and Social Control (30 points)

SOCIOL 703 - Sociology of Mental Health (30 points)
