Subject Overview

Without digital security our systems are susceptible to viruses, spyware and hackers.  There is a real need for people with the right skills in the design, planning and management of secure information technology (IT) infrastructure.

Knowledge and Skills

The Master of Professional Studies in Digital Security teaches you how to design, plan and manage a secure information technology (IT) infrastructure. You can develop a specialised combination of skills that include computer science, information systems, software engineering and operations management.
You will explore integral skills in digital security by working on projects about real industry problems, supervised by our researchers.

Any company that relies heavily on its information and technology (IT) systems has a particular need for a secure digital network. Our graduates can be found in all types of industries including: airline, financial services, governmental services, healthcare and retail.

The programme for students enrolling in the Digital Security specialisation requires the approval of the Head of Department of Statistics or the Head of Department of Computer Science and the Dean of Faculty of Science.

Plan Schedules

Complete 120 points comprising:

  • 45 points for all Compulsory Courses, and
  • 30 points from Elective Courses, and
  • 15 points for all Level 9 Compulsory Course, and
  • Either:
  • 30 points for all Research Project - 1 Semester, or
  • 30 points for all Research Project - 2 Semesters
