Subject Overview

In an information-driven economy, more and more organisations across the globe are using big data as a strategic business asset. As the volume of data and information grows exponentially, so does the complexity of the challenges associated with how they are managed and governed.

Information Governance offers a multidisciplinary and consolidated framework for understanding and using information to improve decision making and add real value to organisations. Information Governance encompasses “the activities and technologies that organisations employ to maximise the value of information while minimising associated risks and costs”. (Information Governance Australia New Zealand, 2019)

A major in Information Governance will enable you to gain specialist understanding of underpinning principles and concepts of privacy and information governance and apply them to practice. You will also develop your critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills as you identify, analyse, and synthesise issues and ideas related to information governance.
