Knowledge and Skills

We live in a world that is increasingly saturated by images and visual information. Being able to read and understand images across a range of media and platforms is crucial in articulating ideas and communicating effectively.
This module brings together various approaches to studying, researching and interpreting photographs, digital images, historical illustrations, artworks, the moving image, diagrams and body language.
You will learn how to critically analyse the way images are described and used, and relate them to a broader cultural context.

Potential Careers

You will be equipped with a greater sense of visual design and an awareness and understanding of the power and significance of images in various formats. You will gain skills in visual literacy and communication.
Your skills and understanding would benefit careers in marketing and communications, brand management, advertising, media and curation.

You must complete three of the courses listed below (45 points), including at least one course (15 points) at Stage II.
Each course is worth 15 points. Before you can enrol in a Stage II course you need to have passed the prerequisite courses for enrolment in that course.

COMMS 302 - Visual Communication

You must include ARTHIST 115 and one course from ANTHRO 212, COMMS 302, MEDIA 222.
