Entry to the Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy are each limited to 40 students per year. Entry to the Postgraduate Certificate in Prescribing is limited to 30 students per year. Selection is by academic merit based on your grades.
You must have completed an undergraduate degree in pharmacy at a recognised university (or similar institution). You must also be currently registered as a pharmacist or be enrolled in the New Zealand pharmacist pre-registration programme.
The Prescribing specialisation is only available if have already completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy. You must currently be a New Zealand registered pharmacist with current registration with the New Zealand Pharmacy Council (or be enrolled in the New Zealand pharmacist pre-registration programme). You must also hold an appropriate position involving patient care and access to a designated medical prescriber approved by the programme director. 
If you have completed the requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy in one specialisation, you may enrol in another specialisation with the permission of the Associate Dean Academic.

1 In order to be admitted to this postgraduate certificate, an applicant must:
a have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy from this University, or have equivalent prior study
and
b hold current registration as a pharmacist in New Zealand.
2 In order to be admitted to the specialisation in Prescribing, an applicant must:
a be a New Zealand registered pharmacist who holds current registration in New Zealand
and
b have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, or have equivalent prior study
and
c hold an appropriate position involving patient care approved by the Programme Director
and
d have access to a designated medical prescriber approved by the Programme Director.
3 Equivalence in Regulation 1 will be determined by the University. Equivalence pertains to the standard as well as nature and level of study.
4 A student who has completed the requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy in one specialisation may, with the permission of the Associate Dean Academic, enrol for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy in another specialisation.
Note: This is a limited entry programme as per the Limitation of Entry Statute 1991 and selection criteria apply. Selection criteria are available from the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.

b complete within the time limit specified in the General Regulations – Postgraduate Certificates.
6 The total enrolment for this postgraduate certificate must not exceed 90 points.

7 A student enrolled for this postgraduate certificate must pass 60 points in courses listed in the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy Schedule.
8 A student must complete the University of Auckland Academic Integrity course as specified in the Enrolment and Programme Regulations, Academic Integrity, of the University Calendar.

Graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate will be able to:<ul><li>Ensure the safe, effective and economic use of medicines for both individual patients and patient groups.</li><li>Design, implement and optimise pharmaceutical care plans for individual patients in a broad range of therapeutic areas.</li><li>Manage the pharmaceutical care of patients with complex clinical needs.</li><li>Develop specialised knowledge of medicines use in areas of clinical interest, including advanced medicines management.</li></ul> This programme has been designed to allow students living anywhere in New Zealand to enrol, as most of the material will be presented online (supplemented by two or three face-to-face weekend workshops per semester).The Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy aims to expand the experience of pharmacists in the development and implementation of patient-centred pharmaceutical care and medicines management plans. The programme covers a wide range of therapeutic areas and can cater to patients with complex clinical needs.Prescribing SpecialisationPharmacists wishing to train as pharmacist prescribers can undertake training as a specialisation of the Postgraduate Certificate. Please note that this Prescribing specialisation is only available for those who have already completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy.The Prescribing specialisation equips pharmacists with the knowledge skills and attributes to prescribe medicines competently within a collaborative healthcare team environment.The Prescribing specialisation will enable you to:<ul><li>Demonstrate comprehensive pharmacotherapeutic knowledge of medicines within their proposed areas of prescribing practice.</li><li>Access and evaluate relevant clinical information concerning individual patients in order to prescribe safely and effectively.</li><li>Demonstrate skills in patient assessment, diagnosis and clinical decision-making to facilitate good prescribing decisions.</li><li>Demonstrate competence in prescribing practice under supervision.</li></ul>
