Programme Overview

With the BC/LLB conjoint you’ll gain an understanding of the roles communication and law have in our world, along with the ability to navigate these specialised areas.

You will develop expertise in writing, public speaking, cultural competency, critical and analytical thinking, and research. You will also build your understanding of legal ethics, professional responsibility and the role that law plays in society. This combination will equip you with the skillset to pursue a career in the communications field, legal profession, and a wide range of other industries.

Becoming a barrister and solicitor

To be admitted as a barrister and solicitor you will need complete a three-month Professional Legal Studies course after completion of the LLB or LLB(Hons). There are currently two providers of this course:

Schedule Notes

A student who is required to meet the Academic English Language Requirement through the completion of an approved academic English language course, as specified in the Enrolment and Programme Regulations, Academic English Language Requirement, of the University Calendar, may be required by the LLB Programme Director to:

1 substitute an LLB course with an approved academic English language course, or

2 include an approved academic English language course in their non-LLB component degree, or

3 complete, to a specified standard, a course or courses that are approved by the Programme Director as meeting the Academic English Language Requirement for that student

Complete 675 points comprising:

  • 255 points for Bachelor of Communication Conjoint Component , and
  • 405 points for Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Component, and
  • 15 points from General Education, and
  • 1 item from Academic Integrity Course

Bachelor of Communication Conjoint Component

Complete 255 points comprising:

  • 120 points for Core Courses, and
  • 120 points for one Major from Majors, and
  • 15 points from Additional BC courses

Selected courses must include at least 165 points at level 200 or higher.

Selected courses must include at least 75 points at level 300.

Core Courses

Complete 120 points comprising:

  • 45 points for all Stage I Compulsory Courses, and
  • 15 points from Stage I Elective Courses, and
  • 30 points for all Stage II Compulsory Courses, and
  • 30 points from Stage II/III Elective Courses

Additional BC courses

Complete exactly 15 points from the following:

Bachelor of Laws Conjoint Component

Complete 405 points comprising:

  • 45 points for all Part I Compulsory Courses, and
  • 130 points for all Part II, and
  • 125 points for Part III, and
  • 105 points for Part IV
