Subject Overview

In Construction Management, you will use skills from a range of disciplines to apply general management techniques to the construction industry. Courses in this subject will help you to understand how quality assurance, human resources and risk management fit into the life cycle of a modern construction project.

The University of Auckland attained the Chartered Institute of Building's (CIOB) Accredited Centre status in 2014, making this the first CIOB-accredited masters degree in New Zealand. This acknowledges our high standards of governance, quality assurance and resource management. CIOB is the world's largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership.

Knowledge and Skills

You can complete a Master of Engineering Studies in Construction Management. Radical changes in the building industry have led to a demand for professionals with a new set of knowledge, skills and capabilities. This programme aims to provide you with an in-depth understanding of the construction management discipline so you are able to meet current industry demands.

The subjects that will impart this understanding include Construction Supply Chain Management, Infrastructure Asset Management and Engineering Contracts for Projects. The aim is to build your confidence for working in an industry known for its dynamic, complex and unpredictable nature.

  • 30 points from Group 2 Elective Courses

Group 1 Elective Courses

Complete exactly 90 points from the following:

Students may only complete 45 points from: CIVIL 788, CIVIL 788A, CIVIL 788B, CIVIL 789, CIVIL 795, CIVIL 795A, or CIVIL 795B.

Up to 90 points may be substituted from other approved 600 and 700 level courses offered at this University.
